I learned today that Dr. Bradley Edwards is in the final stages of releasing two new books relating to the Space Elevator. The first, written in conjunction with Phil Ragan, is a book dedicated to explaining the concept of the Space Elevator to the layman. It’s entitled “Leaving the Planet by Space Elevator“.
The second book is co-edited by Dr. Edwards and David Raitt and is a collection of Sci-Fi stories resulting from the European Space Agency’s (ESA) contest for young authors who wanted to write about the Space Elevator. It’s entitled “Running the Line“. I had posted about this contest earlier. The ESA story about this contest can be found here.
Dr. Edwards is planning on bringing several cases of these books to the upcoming Space Elevator Games so you can get an autographed copy of these books there (which is what I’m planning on doing). They will also be available via Amazon (and other places, I’m sure) and when they’re out, I’ll post a follow-up.

When you’re there, ask him if he is willing to create an e-book format and sell them (possibly through e-reader or something secure) as I am reading most of my books through my palm now.
Note: Is it me Ted, or does every time you think about the Space Elevator, you start to smile?
Darnell, I certainly will ask him about that. What are you using as a reader? I’ve been starting to think about getting one myself.
And yes, every time I think about an SE I smile. Then I remember the problems that must be overcome. Then I think about the advantages it will bring. Then I think about the skeptics. Then I think about the upcoming games. I still wind up smiling 🙂

I use E Reader (http://www.ereader.com/) as it is secure and reliable (and would be more secure than adobe).
I use it to read books on my palm, but if he wants to go with the paper version, that is fine with me as well.
Has Dr. Edwards been specific about the dates when he will be at the Games? I wouldn’t want to miss him, if it’s to be short. Thanks for the info, send to:
Hey Darnell, as noted in my latest posting, the new Dr. Edwards books are now available on http://www.lulu.com. One of them, Leaving the Planet by Space Elevator, is available in both downloadable and printed versions. The other one is available now only in a print edition, but Dr. Edwards tells me that they will probably make a downloadable version of that one in the future, too.
And Brian, Dr. Edwards will be at the games all day Friday and Saturday, so if you’re there, you should be able to see/meet him.
