Hi, I’ve read the article from cnn.com. I’ve read about the idea of this elevator several times since i was a child, I think it’s a very good idea. Thinking about the way of giving energy to the elevator and the fact that carbon nanotubes have special electrical properties like low resistance, i realized that the rope must cross the ionosphere, where the solar wind transfer energy to the atmosphere and as a result there is a lot of electric charge up there that can be conducted through the rope to the Earth ground, powering the elevator itself and supplying good amounts of electrical power to the utility grid. Indeed the elevator can use the current passing through the rope to go up by means of electromagnetic forces with a very simple motion system.
