Yet another reason to build a Space Elevator
September 17th, 2006
The Russian Parliament voted against sending Madonna to the ISS, 252-42. Oh the humanity!!
If we had a Space Elevator, she could just book a ride to ISS orbit, hop a shuttle craft, and pop on over (yes I know I’m oversimplifying). I’m not sure why the Russians refused her money - they’ve allowed others to pay their way to the ISS.
Perhaps LiftPort can talk her into being an investor…

Could be a promotion for a re-release of her “I’m Breathless” album

The Russians had to refuse her to appease the Church, who are very uppity about her use of the name ‘Madonna’.

As “Madonna” IS her real (first) name, perhaps the Church should have been unhappy with her parents, instead…

I heard the real reason they declined her was because of their was no room until 2009 for any future space tourists.
I guess the material girl will just have to wait until 2009–either that or Michael Laine will have to build the SE quick!

Right. Because the Russian Orthodox guys are so tight with the Roman Catholic crowd who in turn control Parliment (rolls eyss).

I’m reasonably certain that if Michael could get 15 minutes with her she’d be behind the project; he’s pretty persuasive.
If we’re trolling for celbrities I’d also like Tom Hanks and Ron Howard in our corner.

My understand is that they first voted in favor of sending her, but someone pointed out that the agreement would also require that she be brought back.
