{"id":966,"date":"2008-03-30T00:05:51","date_gmt":"2008-03-30T05:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=966"},"modified":"2008-07-22T01:29:15","modified_gmt":"2008-07-22T06:29:15","slug":"how-do-you-say-space-elevator-in-different-languages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=966","title":{"rendered":"How do you say &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221; in different languages?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/media\/globe_east.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/tn_globe_east.jpg\"  height=\"200\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 200px\" \/><\/a>A recent <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=947\">post<\/a> I put up had as it&#8217;s title &#8220;<em><strong>Weltraumaufzug<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; &#8211; the German translation of &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221;.\u00a0 I recently discovered a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zadar.net\/space-elevator\/\">website<\/a> that had the Croation translation: &#8220;<strong><em>Nebesko Dizalo<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>It occurs to me that a worthwhile exercise would be to translate &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221; (or perhaps &#8220;Elevator to Space&#8221;?) into as many different languages as possible.\u00a0 I think that doing so might help us to internationalize the concept and broaden it&#8217;s appeal.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, I am making a request of\u00a0all of my readers:\u00a0 If you know how (or can find out how) to say\/write &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221; in a language other than English (or German or Croation), can you please email it to me at:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">(Ted [AT] SpaceElevatorBlog.com)<\/p>\n<p>When I get a respectable number of these (at least 30 to start, I would think) I&#8217;ll put up a web page with them and link to it in my sidebar.<\/p>\n<p>Please, only send me something that you&#8217;re fairly sure of &#8211; I don&#8217;t want the page to become a subject of ridicule.\u00a0 We all know and love <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/babelfish.altavista.com\/\">Babelfish<\/a> to be able to give us a quick and dirty translation of something, but it&#8217;s not anything that we would use for serious work.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks everyone!<\/p>\n<p>(Beautiful picture of the earth from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/sevencolors.org\/images\/photo\/original\/globe_east.jpg\">here<\/a> &#8211; click on it for a larger version)<\/p>\n<p><em>(Update: I decided to not wait until I have 30 translations before I put them up on the blog &#8211; by the time I have that many, it will be a big project and I&#8217;ll find an excuse to put it off. \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Also, rather than make it an entry on the sidebar (which is getting pretty crowded), I added it as a page to the top of the blog &#8211; you can now click on &#8220;Translation Project&#8221; and see where we stand with this.)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent post I put up had as it&#8217;s title &#8220;Weltraumaufzug&#8221; &#8211; the German translation of &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221;.\u00a0 I recently discovered a website that had the Croation translation: &#8220;Nebesko Dizalo&#8220;.
