{"id":904,"date":"2008-01-20T12:34:58","date_gmt":"2008-01-20T17:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=904"},"modified":"2008-02-14T18:16:36","modified_gmt":"2008-02-14T23:16:36","slug":"the-photonics-west-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=904","title":{"rendered":"The Photonics West Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"173\" src=\"\/media\/PhotonicsWestLogo.jpg\"  height=\"63\" style=\"width: 173px; height: 63px\" \/>Beginning this week, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/spie.org\/x7766.xml\">Photonics West Exhibition<\/a> is going to be held in San Jose, California.\u00a0 From their website:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;SPIE Photonics West is the most important North American exhibition on optics, lasers, biomedical optics, optoelectronic components, and imaging technologies. Located at the center of the world&#8217;s hottest technology market, Silicon Valley, Photonics West is a can&#8217;t-miss exhibition.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I truly wish I could attend, but\u00a0prior committments\u00a0prevent me from doing so.\u00a0 Though I won&#8217;t be there, I&#8217;m going to do a series of postings about the show, some of the exhibitors and some of the attendees (long-distance blogging as it were).\u00a0 Ben Shelef of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceward.org\">Spaceward Foundation<\/a> will be attending and will hopefully send me some photos\u00a0which I can post too.<\/p>\n<p>Several of the teams who have registered for this year&#8217;s Space Elevator Games will be in attendance, visiting the various laser vendors (and other suppliers), looking for a leg-up in this year&#8217;s competition.\u00a0 They will certainly be visiting <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dilas.com\/\">DILAS<\/a>,\u00a0the\u00a0laser vendor\u00a0for the two laser-powered teams in last year&#8217;s Games (USST and Lasermotive).\u00a0\u00a0They will also be visiting\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.trumpf-laser.com\/\">TRUMPF<\/a>, another laser vendor.\u00a0 Both vendors are trying to entice teams into using their equipment this year by &#8220;stepping-up&#8221; with offers of help and support.<\/p>\n<p>The Space Elevator Games have come a long way in just a few short years.\u00a0 Starting in 2004, running a 25m racecourse with Spaceward-provided, hand-aimed\u00a0searchlights as a power source,\u00a0it has\u00a0now evolved to a competition where the competitors must complete a 1km racecourse using lasers as their power source and with an automated tracking system.<\/p>\n<p>I love it!<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=822\">Skronk, Greezle and Commander Skippy<\/a> have much to be concerned with \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning this week, the Photonics West Exhibition is going to be held in San Jose, California.\u00a0 From their website: &#8220;SPIE Photonics West is the most important North American exhibition on optics, lasers, biomedical optics, optoelectronic components, and imaging technologies.
