{"id":876,"date":"2007-11-30T17:45:17","date_gmt":"2007-11-30T22:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=876"},"modified":"2007-12-03T00:18:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-03T05:18:00","slug":"miscellaneous-spaceward-games-articles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=876","title":{"rendered":"Miscellaneous Spaceward Games articles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"108\" src=\"\/media\/elevator2010Logo.jpg\"  height=\"53\" style=\"width: 108px; height: 53px\" \/>Yes the Games are over and yes I&#8217;m sure that 99% of the readers here already know the results.\u00a0 But I did\u00a0a search on the various articles written in a &#8220;wrap-up mode&#8221; and am posting some of them here.\u00a0 All of them (IMHO) contain some info I didn&#8217;t know or were , in other ways interesting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/punkworks.ca\/blog\/?p=87\">This article<\/a> is from the Punkworks blog and talked about getting ready for the competition and the accident which occurred on route to the games (talked about in more detail <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=786\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=778\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/punkworks.ca\/blog\/?p=91\">This article<\/a> is also from the Punkworks blog and is most unhappy in its tone.\u00a0 They state definitively that they are &#8220;&#8230;definitely not coming back to Spaceward&#8217;s games ever again.&#8221;\u00a0 This is unfortunate, but they really weren&#8217;t ready to go, also mentioned in this same posting; &#8220;We were basically integrating on the launch platform.&#8221;\u00a0 It&#8217; s hard to win when you do that&#8230;\u00a0 Punkworks had teamed up with the McGill Team to try and make a go of it.<\/p>\n<p>The Davis County Clipper (a local publication) had at least two articles about the Games (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clippertoday.com\/default.asp?sourceid=&amp;smenu=1&amp;twindow=&amp;mad=&amp;sdetail=23520&amp;wpage=1&amp;skeyword=&amp;sidate=&amp;ccat=&amp;ccatm=&amp;restate=&amp;restatus=&amp;reoption=&amp;retype=&amp;repmin=&amp;repmax=&amp;rebed=&amp;rebath=&amp;subname=&amp;pform=&amp;sc=1005&amp;hn=clippertoday&amp;he=.com\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clippertoday.com\/default.asp?sourceid=&amp;smenu=1&amp;twindow=&amp;mad=&amp;sdetail=23698&amp;wpage=1&amp;skeyword=&amp;sidate=&amp;ccat=&amp;ccatm=&amp;restate=&amp;restatus=&amp;reoption=&amp;retype=&amp;repmin=&amp;repmax=&amp;rebed=&amp;rebath=&amp;subname=&amp;pform=&amp;sc=1005&amp;hn=clippertoday&amp;he=.com\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 The second article contained a bit of information I hadn&#8217;t known until reading this; <em>&#8220;The weather played a significant part in the dismal results. \u201cThey were considering packing up and moving to Ames Air Force Base in California,\u201d said Curtis Koch of the Davis County Events Center. Instead, they agreed to stay when the fee for using the event center was dropped, acknowledging that the expected 20,000 anticipated attendance did not materialize.
