{"id":863,"date":"2007-11-10T13:07:24","date_gmt":"2007-11-10T18:07:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=863"},"modified":"2007-11-10T13:07:24","modified_gmt":"2007-11-10T18:07:24","slug":"the-2007-light-racers-competiton-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=863","title":{"rendered":"The 2007 Light Racers Competiton &#8211; Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/LightRacersLogo.jpg\"  \/>McGill University was one of the &#8220;double-dipping&#8221; teams this year, entering two competitions; the Power-Beaming \/ Climber competition and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceward.org\/lightRacers.html\">Light Racers Competition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Their car was, by far, the fastest one in the competition.\u00a0 Unfortunately, it couldn&#8217;t stay within the race course boundaries, despite repeated attempts, until after the competition was closed.\u00a0 The idea of these &#8220;cars&#8221; was that they should be steerable via remote-control, like an RC racer.\u00a0 But several of the competitors lacked that feature; the competitor would put them on the starting line, aim them towards the finish line, and hope for the best.\u00a0 The KC Space Pirates winning &#8220;car&#8221; was built this way, as was the McGill car.<\/p>\n<p>The first video show\u00a0their best competition run.\u00a0 If the &#8220;car&#8221; had stayed in bounds it would have easily won the Professional category.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rsUhpXsZF6g[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The second video shows a run they made in conjunction with the KC Space Pirates.\u00a0 This was after the competition was closed and they were just having fun.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ntBvwL4Qw8c[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The final video shows a great run they made &#8211; crossing the finish line in bounds.\u00a0 Unfortunately it was a &#8220;fun run&#8221; and didn&#8217;t count towards a prize.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll note that at the end of the run, it ran into yours truly.\u00a0 I was recording the competition while sitting on the floor at the finish line.\u00a0 All of the racers, with the exception of the McGill one, moved so slowly that I was able to easily get out of their way if they were headed towards me.\u00a0 But with this run I had no chance.\u00a0 I tried to record it myself but messed it up somehow.\u00a0 This video is courtesy of Alex from the McGill Team.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yRWLDWKUz0c[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks Alex!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>McGill University was one of the &#8220;double-dipping&#8221; teams this year, entering two competitions; the Power-Beaming \/ Climber competition and the Light Racers Competition.
