{"id":826,"date":"2007-10-20T23:22:25","date_gmt":"2007-10-21T04:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=826"},"modified":"2007-10-20T23:22:25","modified_gmt":"2007-10-21T04:22:25","slug":"2007-space-elevator-games-entry-57","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=826","title":{"rendered":"2007 Space Elevator Games &#8211; (Entry 57)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Touching the future.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what I was able to do tonight, actually touch the future.\u00a0 Even though the tether brought by MIT&#8217;s\u00a0Delta-X team\u00a0was not the winner in tonight&#8217;s Tether competition, it represents, IMHO, the future.\u00a0 We\u00a0get excited\u00a0when reading\u00a0articles about how carbon nanotubes are now &#8220;1 cm long&#8221; or &#8220;2 cm long&#8221;, etc., but Delta-X brought a tether, made purely out of carbon nanotubes, that was 2 METERS long.\u00a0 Stephen Steiner, head of the Delta-X team gave it to me to study and to handle.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0had a feeling of awe while doing so, truly I did.\u00a0 This is the future.\u00a0 Yes, carbon nanotubes are not yet equal to other\u00a0technology.\u00a0 And yes, it will take some time.\u00a0 And yes, it represents the future.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll post some good close-up shots of the Delta-X carbon nanotube tether tomorrow.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to see what they bring next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Touching the future.
