{"id":799,"date":"2007-10-17T23:05:12","date_gmt":"2007-10-18T04:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=799"},"modified":"2007-10-18T00:26:47","modified_gmt":"2007-10-18T05:26:47","slug":"2007-space-elevator-games-entry-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=799","title":{"rendered":"2007 Space Elevator Games &#8211; (Entry 31)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both LaserMotive and Centaurus passed the &#8220;qualification&#8221; tests that were run today.\u00a0 This means that all 8 teams which have showed up &#8220;qualified&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I put &#8220;qualified&#8221; in quotes because now I&#8217;m not quite sure what that means.\u00a0 It was my understanding that the teams which passed todays tests were considered qualified.\u00a0 Now it&#8217;s my understanding that this is only provisional.\u00a0 If the weather tomorrow does not permit additional qualification runs, then the tests today\u00a0will be considered\u00a0qualification ones.\u00a0 However, if the weather\u00a0tomorrow does permit runs to be made, then the teams have to go through the same qualification tests which the Kansas City Space Pirates successfully did on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>At least that&#8217;s my understanding now.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure it will be clarified in tomorrow morning&#8217;s team meeting.<\/p>\n<p>I am uploading the &#8220;qualification&#8221; videos now to YouTube.\u00a0 They will take some time and then I will include them in the next post.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071017\/DSC00094.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071017\/tn_DSC00094.jpg\"  height=\"113\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 113px\" \/><\/a>In the meantime, I&#8217;d like to\u00a0salute the hard-work and inventiveness shown by the three people who were largely responsible for\u00a0putting together\u00a0the indoor &#8220;qualification&#8221; rig.\u00a0 From left to right, they are Michael Fischer, Bryan Laubscher and Vern McGeorge.\u00a0 Some people may recognize Michael as being one of the entrants into last year&#8217;s Games.\u00a0 He tells me that he is also an honorary member\u00a0of the E-T-C team.\u00a0\u00a0Bryan is the safety officer and is also\u00a0a major booster of the Space Elevator concept (and a partner with Dr. Brad Edwards in Black Line Ascension).\u00a0 Vern is a long time Spaceward volunteer and is one of the crew who works in the background making things happen.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks, guys.\u00a0 Without your work today, these runs would have never happened.<\/p>\n<p>(Click on the thumbnail for a larger version of the picture)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Both LaserMotive and Centaurus passed the &#8220;qualification&#8221; tests that were run today.\u00a0 This means that all 8 teams which have showed up &#8220;qualified&#8221;.
