{"id":769,"date":"2007-10-14T18:58:18","date_gmt":"2007-10-14T23:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=769"},"modified":"2007-10-15T00:44:06","modified_gmt":"2007-10-15T05:44:06","slug":"2007-space-elevator-games-14oct07-entry-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=769","title":{"rendered":"2007 Space Elevator Games &#8211; (Entry 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some pictures of the &#8220;nuts and bolts&#8221; of the ribbon raceway from today:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071014\/DSC00001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071014\/tn_DSC00001.jpg\"  \/><\/a>The tether the Climbers will travel on will be fastened at ground level to these pictured steel, highway-repair plates.\u00a0 Each one weighs about a ton.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071014\/DSC00006.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071014\/tn_DSC00006.jpg\"  height=\"113\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 113px\" \/><\/a>These are the dampers (partially assembled) used to minimize the whipping about of the tether which will be almost surely caused by local wind conditions.\u00a0 This was a real problem last year &#8211; hopefully well addressed this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071014\/DSC00007.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2007SEGames\/20071014\/tn_DSC00007.jpg\"  height=\"113\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 113px\" \/><\/a>This is the trolley which will sit at the top of the ribbon.\u00a0 The Climbers will ascend updates to this trolley.\u00a0 A trigger mechanism at the top will stop the Climbers ascent.\u00a0 I&#8217;m told a camera is also going to be posted on this, so this should give us some pretty cool shots.<\/p>\n<p>As always, click on the thumbnails for a larger version.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some pictures of the &#8220;nuts and bolts&#8221; of the ribbon raceway from today: The tether the Climbers will travel on will be fastened at ground level to these pictured steel, highway-repair plates.\u00a0 Each one weighs about a ton. .
