In the last\u00a0few days, two of the teams which had entered the Climber \/ Power-Beaming event at this year’s Space Elevator Games have announced they will not be competing this year.\u00a0 Donald Longerbeam’s Starlifters dropped out, citing financial issues, while just today,\u00a0Michael Harvey and the\u00a0Andromeda Connection threw in the towel<\/a>, citing problems in getting solar cells\u00a0capable of handling\u00a0their MOLPSol “laser”.<\/p>\n

This winnowing out\u00a0is a normal process;\u00a0it occurred in both the 2005 and 2006 Space Elevator Games –\u00a0not every attempt to build and power a Climber is successful.\u00a0 And it gets harder each year as the requirements continue to become more stringent.<\/p>\n

But not to worry; there are several teams who have already demonstrated their teams capabilities and will be competing.\u00a0 This year’s events will be, by far, the most competitive in the history of the Space Elevator Games.\u00a0 We’ll be seeing teams using, for the first time,\u00a0both laser and microwave propulsion systems and we’ll see how quickly this technology is advancing.<\/p>\n

But I must say that I hope that the\u00a0Starlifters will continue to attend\u00a0our weekly chat session – they were always so cheerful and upbeat and just a joy to be around \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
