{"id":643,"date":"2007-06-09T00:01:29","date_gmt":"2007-06-09T05:01:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=643"},"modified":"2007-06-09T00:11:32","modified_gmt":"2007-06-09T05:11:32","slug":"micrometeorites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=643","title":{"rendered":"Micrometeorites&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"112\" src=\"\/media\/SpacerefLogo.jpg\"  height=\"76\" style=\"width: 112px; height: 76px\" \/>I subscribe to Marc Boucher&#8217;s daily emails from his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceref.com\">SpaceRef.com<\/a> site.\u00a0 They are very interesting and I almost always find something in every email which fascinates me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/MicroMeteoriteDamage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/tn_MicroMeteoriteDamage.jpg\"  height=\"136\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 136px\" \/><\/a>In his Friday, June 8th edition, there was a link to a <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceflight.nasa.gov\/gallery\/images\/station\/crew-15\/html\/iss015e10854.html\">NASA site<\/a> showing some micrometeorite damage suffered by the ISS.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve posted a thumbnail here and you can click on it to view a larger version (warning; it&#8217;s a 1.6MB file).\u00a0 The NASA URL also has links to that image and a lower resolution one.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t post a &#8220;credit&#8221; for the photo, but the story leads me to believe it&#8217;s one of the Russian astronauts currently up there.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I&#8217;ve posted this here as this hazard, along with others, will be something that a Space Elevator ribbon and Climber will have to deal with.\u00a0 The picture shows a hole poked in an insulation blanket &#8211; I&#8217;d have liked to find out what kind of damage, if any, was suffered by the module itself.<\/p>\n<p>And, if you don&#8217;t already subscribe to these emails, I&#8217;d highly recommend you do so.\u00a0 Just visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceref.com\">SpaceRef.com<\/a> and sign up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I subscribe to Marc Boucher&#8217;s daily emails from his SpaceRef.com site.\u00a0 They are very interesting and I almost always find something in every email which fascinates me.
