{"id":318,"date":"2006-08-28T23:41:19","date_gmt":"2006-08-29T04:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=318"},"modified":"2006-08-28T23:46:36","modified_gmt":"2006-08-29T04:46:36","slug":"2000-tonne-per-day-space-elevator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=318","title":{"rendered":"2000 tonne per day space elevator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Keith Henson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cryonet.org\/cgi-bin\/dsp.cgi?msg=28355\">proposes<\/a> &#8220;&#8230;the design of a moving, non-tapered space elevator cable threaded through a system of pulleys that increase the number of supporting strands as the space elevator approaches geostationary orbit (GEO)&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He gives a link to, I guess, a posting of this paper on the LiftPort forums but for some reason I can&#8217;t access it.\u00a0 I know the idea of a pulley system has been floated around in the past &#8211; this is just the latest posting I&#8217;ve seen on this subject.<\/p>\n<p>Until I can read the actual paper, I\u00a0can&#8217;t comment on it.\u00a0 But the abstract, accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cryonet.org\/cgi-bin\/dsp.cgi?msg=28355\">here<\/a>, sounds interesting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cryonet.org\/cgi-bin\/dsp.cgi?msg=28356\">rebuttal<\/a> from David Stodolsky states that &#8220;While solar power satellites could make a contribution, they are not\u00a0going to solve climatic problems.
