{"id":2136,"date":"2014-12-15T00:05:14","date_gmt":"2014-12-15T06:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=2136"},"modified":"2014-12-14T20:57:15","modified_gmt":"2014-12-15T02:57:15","slug":"peter-griffin-learns-about-the-space-elevator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=2136","title":{"rendered":"Peter Griffin learns about the Space Elevator&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/media\/WAWNFT.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/media\/WAWNFT.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"1326\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen this on a couple of websites lately (<a href=\"http:\/\/themetapicture.com\/the-space-elevator-idea\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.superfunnyimages.com\/the-space-elevator-idea\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) but don&#8217;t know who to give credit to.<\/p>\n<p>The last sentence deserves comment: <em>&#8220;If built, a space shuttle that docs [sp] at the top could be reached by the space elevator, thus eliminating the need for the shuttle to travel through Earth&#8217;s atmosphere and therefore greatly reducing the cost of space travel.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 The space shuttle was designed to re-enter the atmosphere as it had wings and landing gear and drag-chutes and all that good stuff.\u00a0 If you were going to build a spacecraft that took people \/ cargo from a space elevator to Point A or Point B, then you wouldn&#8217;t need those (and related) items, you could build spacecraft that were optimally designed to travel in space.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, being a bit pedantic, a space &#8220;shuttle&#8221; could dock anywhere along the length of a space elevator where docking facilities existed, not just at the top.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, yes Peter, yes&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve seen this on a couple of websites lately (here and here) but don&#8217;t know who to give credit to.
