{"id":2016,"date":"2014-11-20T00:05:54","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T06:05:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=2016"},"modified":"2014-11-19T18:46:00","modified_gmt":"2014-11-20T00:46:00","slug":"a-new-reference-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=2016","title":{"rendered":"A new reference site&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/media\/StackExchangeLogo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"104\" \/>Over the years, I have come across several sites around the web which host questions and answers regarding the space elevator.\u00a0 Many of these appear to be essentially fact-free and not worth the time visiting.<\/p>\n<p>I have found an exception, however, and that is the Space Exploration site of the <strong>StackExchange<\/strong> network.\u00a0 According to Wikipedia, <strong>StackExchange<\/strong> is &#8220;<em>&#8230;\u00a0a network of question and answer websites on diverse topics in many different fields, each site covering a specific topic, where questions, answers, and users are subject to a reputation award process. The sites are modeled after Stack Overflow, a forum for computer programming questions that was the original site in this network. The reputation system is designed to allow the sites to be self-moderating.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t looked at all the categories of the site (there are a lot of them) but the Q&amp;A discourse for the questions tagged &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221; at the Space Exploration site seems to be more well-thought-out than at other such sites.\u00a0 If you <a href=\"http:\/\/space.stackexchange.com\/questions\/tagged\/space-elevator\" target=\"_blank\">visit this site<\/a>, I think you&#8217;ll agree&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I currently have three sites listed in my <strong>DISCUSSION \/ NETWORKING GROUPS<\/strong> sidebar category, but am removing all three of them and replacing them with the <strong>StackExchange<\/strong> site.\u00a0 The Liftport forums seem to be no more and there hasn&#8217;t been a posting in over a year on either the Twitter or the Yahoo Groups forums.<\/p>\n<p>There is an active, ongoing discussion of the space elevator at <strong>LinkedIn<\/strong>, but you need to be a member to partake (I&#8217;ll add it to the sidebar category too).\u00a0 If anyone is aware of other good space elevator Q&amp;A sites\/forums, please let me know so I can add it to this blog&#8217;s sidebar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the years, I have come across several sites around the web which host questions and answers regarding the space elevator.\u00a0 Many of these appear to be essentially fact-free and not worth the time visiting.
