{"id":1894,"date":"2014-10-29T00:05:45","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T05:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1894"},"modified":"2014-10-29T23:22:58","modified_gmt":"2014-10-30T04:22:58","slug":"space-elevator-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1894","title":{"rendered":"Space Elevator Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past months, I&#8217;ve come across several space elevator concept images and have collected them together into two posts, one for today and one for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>First up is an image from a <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/the-view-of-the-space-elevator-is-beautiful-from-here-1609902264\" target=\"_blank\">July post<\/a> on one of my favorite websites, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.io9.com\" target=\"_blank\">io9<\/a>.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artstation.com\/artist\/Silva\" target=\"_blank\">Joao Silva<\/a> is the Brazilian artist who created this &#8211; his caption reads: &#8220;<em>If you want to get a good look at the long tether linking the space elevator platform planetside to the orbital station they built inside a hollow asteroid, you really need to be in orbit. I come to the forward viewing deck to see it whenever I can.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/20141029_io9.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/media\/20141029_io9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"695\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next up is one of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/NemoTral\" target=\"_blank\">series of images<\/a> (alternative website <a href=\"http:\/\/africandigitalart.com\/2012\/04\/gabon-space-elevator\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nemo-tral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">N\u00e9mo Tral<\/a>, a French (I believe) artist.\u00a0 These images were submitted to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evolo.us\/category\/2012\/\" target=\"_blank\">2012 eVolo Skyscraper competition<\/a>. and depict a space elevator in the African republic of Gabon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/20141029_Gabon.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/media\/20141029_Gabon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"851\" height=\"902\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then, of course, there is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gundam\" target=\"_blank\">Gundam<\/a>, that absolutely awesome Japanese anime creation about giant robots.\u00a0 A space elevator plays a prominent role in the Anno Domini timeline episodes.\u00a0 There are a lot of Gundam &#8211; Space Elevator images on the web, one of my favorites is shown below.\u00a0 Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/gundam.wikia.com\/wiki\/Orbital_Elevator\" target=\"_blank\">Gundam Orbital Elevator page<\/a> to see more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/20141029_GundamSE.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/media\/20141029_GundamSE.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And, as Gundam is to the Anime world, Halo is to the gamer world and Halo also has its own space elevator.\u00a0 The Mombasa Orbital Elevator (aka the &#8220;Mombasa Tether&#8221;) is located &#8220;<em>at the heart of the East African Protectorate city of New Mombasa on Earth<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/halo.wikia.com\/wiki\/New_Mombasa_Orbital_Elevator\" target=\"_blank\">Halo Wikia Orbital Elevator page<\/a> has many graphics you can enjoy, one of my favorites is this one:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/20141029_Halo.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/media\/20141029_Halo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1413\" height=\"1006\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Clicking on any of these images will display a full-size version &#8211; enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>More tomorrow&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past months, I&#8217;ve come across several space elevator concept images and have collected them together into two posts, one for today and one for tomorrow.
