&#8220;Additional Reading&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In yesterday&#8217;s post, I talked about the new crowd-funding campaign to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1632459780\/space-elevator-20xx?ref=newest\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Space Elevator &#8211; 20XX<\/strong><\/a>, a &#8220;<em>dialogue driven web game<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0 Reading about this new project and then writing the blog post caused me to think about life on a space elevator and the books I had read which had this as theme.\u00a0 The ones I can recall are:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/HorizonsCover.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/media\/HorizonsCover.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Horizons-Mary-Rosenblum\/dp\/0765355159\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Horizons<\/strong><\/a> by Mary Rosenblum.\u00a0 I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=563\" target=\"_blank\">blogged about this<\/a> back in March of 2007 (Has it really been 7&amp;1\/2 years since then?\u00a0 Geez&#8230;).\u00a0 Check out my blog post for a brief review of the book, but suffice it say that I remember really enjoying it.\u00a0 The concluding line in my review was &#8220;<em>Overall, however, I quite enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to see how a future, Space-Elevator based civilization might develop.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/RedMarsCover.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"\/media\/RedMarsCover.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Red-Mars-Trilogy-Stanley-Robinson\/dp\/0553560735\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Red Mars<\/strong><\/a> by Kim Stanley Robinson.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a long time since I&#8217;ve read this &#8211; too long in fact, but as I recall, there was some description of life aboard the Mars Space Elevator, that is until it was sabotaged and the space station (Apex Anchor) went flying off into space.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never posted a book review but have made my feelings known in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1716\" target=\"_blank\">this blog post<\/a>, detailing a new TV series which is supposed to be based on this book.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/RunningTheLineCover.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/media\/RunningTheLineCover.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/us\/en\/shop\/bradley-edwards\/running-the-line\/paperback\/product-487807.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Running The Line<\/strong><\/a>, a collection of &#8216;<em>Selected stories and images from the 2005 Clarke-Bradbury International Science Fiction Competition<\/em>&#8216; edited by Dr. Brad Edwards and David Raitt.\u00a0 I had blogged about this book in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=601\" target=\"_blank\">very brief post<\/a> in April of 2007 and, in that post, had leaned on a more detailed review of this book by &#8220;Dr. Coburn&#8221;.\u00a0 Sadly, the link to that review no longer works.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been many years since I&#8217;ve read this collection, but as I recall, many\/most of the shorts dealt with a specific aspect of living on a space elevator.<\/p>\n<p>There might be other books with these theme, but I can&#8217;t think of them at the moment.\u00a0 So, if you want a primer on how you might want to navigate through this &#8216;dialogue driven web game&#8217;, these books might provide you with some clues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In yesterday&#8217;s post, I talked about the new crowd-funding campaign to create Space Elevator &#8211;
