{"id":1538,"date":"2012-09-03T23:07:06","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T04:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1538"},"modified":"2012-09-03T23:10:18","modified_gmt":"2012-09-04T04:10:18","slug":"liftport-and-kickstarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1538","title":{"rendered":"LiftPort and Kickstarter&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/tn_LiftPortNewLogo.png\" onmouseout=\"undefined\" onmouseover=\"undefined\" title=\"undefined\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"108\" width=\"200\"  \/>As part of the &#8220;LiftPort 2.0&#8221; relaunch, Michael Laine and company have created a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/michaellaine\/space-elevator-science-climb-to-the-sky-a-tethered\" target=\"_blank\">Kickstarter campaign<\/a>\u00a0to finance some projects they want to do\/accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>Their initial goal was to raise $8K to finance some fairly low-grade experiments and they have totally blown by that (their campaign has raised over $60K at the time of this blog post &#8211; MOST impressive&#8230;). \u00a0This will allow them to fund some of their &#8216;stretch&#8217; goals which are much more ambitious undertakings.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/tn_KickStarterLogo.jpg\" onmouseout=\"undefined\" onmouseover=\"undefined\"  width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"undefined\" \/>I spent some time with Michael at the recent Space Elevator Conference (posts about this Conference are coming soon &#8211; promise!) and it was very good to interact with him again. \u00a0He&#8217;s a dynamic force in the community and I&#8217;m glad he&#8217;s back.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve become a sponsor of the LiftPort KickStarter project (at the Video Channel level &#8211; I think it&#8217;s a great idea) and I encourage you to do the same (at any level). \u00a0There&#8217;s a lot we need to learn to make a Space Elevator a possibility and this effort will contribute to the total body of knowledge that will be necessary to make this most magnificent of all engineering projects a reality.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Note that funding for these projects will close on September 13th, so act soon if you want to be a part of this!)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the &#8220;LiftPort 2.0&#8221; relaunch, Michael Laine and company have created a\u00a0Kickstarter campaign\u00a0to finance some projects they want to do\/accomplish.
