{"id":1519,"date":"2012-03-26T17:13:45","date_gmt":"2012-03-26T22:13:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1519"},"modified":"2012-03-26T17:13:45","modified_gmt":"2012-03-26T22:13:45","slug":"2012-jsetec-is-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1519","title":{"rendered":"2012 JSETEC is in the works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/tn_JSEALogo.jpg\" class=\"alignright\" height=\"87\"  width=\"200\" \/>This coming August, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsea.jp\" target=\"_blank\">Japan Space Elevator Association\u00a0 (JSEA)<\/a> will be holding it&#8217;s fourth annual JSETEC (Japan Space Elevator Technical and Engineering Competition).\u00a0 Each year, the JSEA gets more and more ambitious with its competition and this year, they are aiming for a racecourse more than a kilometer high!<\/p>\n<p>Planning details are still sketchy, but I have received the following additional information from Devin Jacobson of the JSEA:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/tn_RopeClimber.gif\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"200\"  width=\"109\" \/>The next space elevator competition here looks like it will be the first week of August 8\/1-8\/5.\u00a0 We will probably have a narrower\/thicker tether 25mm x 1.2mm, and plan to get up past 1km this time.\u00a0 There is quite a bit of activity due to the recent report from Obayashi Consortium that they plan to build a space elevator by 2050.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><em>We will welcome any teams from the US that want to participate, so I will pass on the competition details once they are fixed.\u00a0 Sounds like end of June or July will need to be the final decision to come or not.
