{"id":1384,"date":"2010-04-04T17:49:40","date_gmt":"2010-04-04T23:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1384"},"modified":"2010-04-04T17:49:40","modified_gmt":"2010-04-04T23:49:40","slug":"laser-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1384","title":{"rendered":"LASER &#8217;10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/LASER10\/tn_LASER-logo.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"171\" height=\"200\"  \/>On March 21st, the LASER (<strong>L<\/strong>ego Bricks <strong>A<\/strong>ctivity and <strong>S<\/strong>pace <strong>E<\/strong>levator <strong>R<\/strong>ace) competition was held in Tokyo, Japan.\u00a0 This event, organized and sponsored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsea.jp\" target=\"_blank\">Japan Space Elevator Association (JSEA)<\/a>, is an event that allows school children the opportunity to build and race Climbers, constructed entirely out of Legos.\u00a0 This is the third time this event has been held and this year was named LASER &#8217;10.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hideyuki Natsume, the Director of this event, sent me the following details about the competition:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">====================<\/p>\n<p>Regulation of the competition is:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Climb vertical track of 25mm width, 7m high polyester-tether.<\/li>\n<li>The Climber must be made of LEGO bricks.<\/li>\n<li>The Climber must have a &#8216;residential module&#8217; as would the future Space Elevator!<\/li>\n<li>Award categories were speed, power(payload) and design of the Climber.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The winner of the competition were students from an elementary school!\u00a0 It was very exciting event not only for the participants, but also the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Overall Awards: (The total score of each category determines the award)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1st Place &#8211; Falcon Robots: Team Falcon Robots (elementary school students)<\/li>\n<li>2nd Place &#8211; Falcons: Team Falcons (elementary school students)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Individual Category Awards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speed Award: (For the fastest time to climb.(7m\/14.2sec) &#8211; Falcon Robots: Team Falcon Robots (elementary school students)<\/li>\n<li>Power Award: (For the best efficiency(payload)) &#8211; Team Bahamut: Nihon Univ. Buzan Junior High School<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical Design Award: (For the best mechanism) &#8211; Team Snake: Nihon Univ. Buzan Junior High School<\/li>\n<li>SE Design Award: (For the best design for Space Elevator) &#8211; COSMIC BOX: Komazawa Gakuen Girl&#8217;s Junior High School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Special Awards<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nihon University Award: (For the best presentation) &#8211;
