height: 190px\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" height=\"190\"  \/>Happy New Year everyone and yes, there has been a dearth of posts lately.\u00a0 Nothing&#8217;s wrong, nothing&#8217;s missing, nothing&#8217;s changed &#8211; just not a lot going on right now and everyone is busy with the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>2009 was a heck of a year for the Space Elevator effort &#8211; highlighted by the fantastic success at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorgames.org\/third-day-and-final-results\/\" target=\"_blank\">November Space Elevator Games<\/a> (where $900,000 in NASA Prize money was won by LaserMotive) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isec.info\" target=\"_blank\">ISEC<\/a> getting it&#8217;s &#8216;sea legs&#8217; and beginning to take an active role in unifying and shaping activities directed towards the development of a Space Elevator.\u00a0 We also saw another carbon nanotube tether entered in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1260\" target=\"_blank\">Spaceward\/NASA&#8217;s Strong Tether Challenge<\/a>, two sets of space elevator games run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsea.jp\" target=\"_blank\">Japan Space Elevator Association (JSEA<\/a>), conferences in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorconference.org\" target=\"_blank\">USA<\/a> (by SESI &amp; Microsoft), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurospaceward.org\" target=\"_blank\">Europe<\/a> (by EuroSpaceward)\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsea.jp\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a> (by JSEA) and the publishing of the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorgames.org\/impossible-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">definitive word<\/a> on the strength needed in a tether that could actually be used to construct a Space Elevator.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/tn_ISECLogo.png\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 132px\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" height=\"132\"  \/>As cool as all that is\/was, 2010 is shaping up to be an even more dynamic year for us.\u00a0 As President of the International Space Elevator Consortium (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.isec.info\" target=\"_blank\">ISEC<\/a>), I&#8217;ve created a strategic plan for our organization and have submitted it to the Board of Directors for review and approval.\u00a0 Once it is approved, it will be posted on the ISEC website.\u00a0 We have some really exciting activities planned for this year.\u00a0 If you aren&#8217;t already on the ISEC email list, I strongly encourage you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isec.info\/newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">sign up<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s free and will guarantee that you&#8217;ll be among the first to know of our planned and happening activities.<\/p>\n<p>And, I would be remiss if I were not to make another pitch for you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isec.info\/signup\" target=\"_blank\">join ISEC<\/a>.\u00a0 We have lots of things that we want to do &#8211;
