{"id":1261,"date":"2009-08-15T14:51:06","date_gmt":"2009-08-15T19:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1261"},"modified":"2009-08-15T14:51:06","modified_gmt":"2009-08-15T19:51:06","slug":"results-from-the-japan-space-elevator-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1261","title":{"rendered":"Results from the Japan Space Elevator Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/hata26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/tn_hata26.jpg\" width=\"200\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"200\"  \/><\/a>Last weekend, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsea.jp\" target=\"_blank\">Japan Space Elevator Association\u00a0 (JSEA) <\/a>sponsored their first Japan Space Elevator Technical &amp; Engineering Competition (JSETEC).<\/p>\n<p>Shuichi Ohno, president of JSEA, sent me the results of the competition as well as some photographs.\u00a0 My favorite picture is the middle one in this post &#8211; a tether going up into the sky.\u00a0 Unfortunately the picture is a bit blurry, but it&#8217;s still cool nonetheless&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This event looked like a lot of fun &#8211; I wish I could have attended, perhaps next year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/SANYO024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/tn_SANYO024.jpg\" width=\"200\" class=\"alignright\" height=\"150\"  \/><\/a>Competition Goals:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Participants competed to see whose battery-powered Climber would be the fastest to ascend a 50mm wide 150m long tether elevated by a helium-filled balloon.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Summary:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><a href=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/SANYO028.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/tn_SANYO028.jpg\" width=\"200\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"150\"  \/><\/a>Despite the somewhat uncooperative weather and some strong wind, teams were able to test their respective climbers once on each day of the competition.\u00a0 Sporting a variety of styles and unique engineering, hopefully the climbers brought out some insight into what a real Space Elevator Climber may be.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m not surprised they had weather \/ wind issues.\u00a0 It wouldn&#8217;t be a Climber competition without them \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Refer to the <a href=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/2009-08-13-PressRelease_english.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Press Release<\/a> to see the detailed results of the competition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/SANYO029.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/2009JSETEC\/tn_SANYO029.jpg\" width=\"200\" class=\"alignright\" height=\"150\"  \/><\/a>Future Plans:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Each year we will look toward increasing the height 2-fold and refining the regulations and categories which will be evaluated.
