{"id":1242,"date":"2009-07-22T16:22:18","date_gmt":"2009-07-22T21:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1242"},"modified":"2009-07-22T16:22:18","modified_gmt":"2009-07-22T21:22:18","slug":"day-2-miscellaneous-coolness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1242","title":{"rendered":"Day 2 &#8211; Miscellaneous coolness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/20090722_000.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/tn_20090722_000.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>Our base of operations here at Dryden is Hanger 4823.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an adjunct to a machine shop, a very cool, professional and accomodating machine shop\u00a0I might add.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve already turned out several parts for us on a moments notice.<\/p>\n<p>When we here for Round 1 of testing, conditions were a bit more primitive then they are today.\u00a0 There are bathrooms and water was available but\u00a0Internet access was almost impossible unless you were lucky enough to have Verizon wireless data service (like I do).\u00a0 For the testing this week, they have set up several tables; each with power and wired Internet access.\u00a0 Lots of bottled water and Gatorade.\u00a0 It&#8217;s all very civilized&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/20090722_012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/tn_20090722_012.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>One of the new things added for this round is a Televison monitor.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve seen CNN and the Weather Channel on it and today, they switched to Base Camera 8.\u00a0 This monitors activity out on the lakebed.\u00a0 We are now able to monitor the <a href=\"\/media\/2009SEGams\/20090722_013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/tn_20090722_013.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>activities out at the lakebed testing location.\u00a0 The picture isn&#8217;t all that clear (long distance, heat waves diffusing up from the desert floor and I think they are just retransmitting something they sent to uStream &#8211; add that all up and you lose some detail), but it&#8217;s very cool nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/20090722_009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/2009SEGames\/tn_20090722_009.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>And,\u00a0a little while ago, I\u00a0had a visit from the Geeky squad (aka the KCSP team).\u00a0 They have purchased these &#8216;cool&#8217; hats, complete with white LEDs.\u00a0 Geekiness lives&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(I want one)<\/p>\n<p><em>(Click on any of the picture thumbnails to see a larger version of the picture)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our base of operations here at Dryden is Hanger 4823.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an adjunct to a machine shop, a very cool, professional and accomodating machine shop\u00a0I might add.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve already turned out several parts for us on a moments notice.
