{"id":1096,"date":"2008-10-10T19:35:41","date_gmt":"2008-10-11T00:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1096"},"modified":"2008-10-10T19:35:41","modified_gmt":"2008-10-11T00:35:41","slug":"iac2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1096","title":{"rendered":"IAC2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"86\" src=\"\/media\/IAFLogo.jpg\"  height=\"75\" style=\"width: 86px; height: 75px\" \/>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iac2008.co.uk\/\">59th International Astronautical Congress<\/a> was recently held (Sep 29 &#8211; Oct 3) in Glasgow, Scotland.\u00a0 I have been to Glasgow and other points in Scotland &#8211; it is a beautiful place &#8211; and would have loved to attended this congress.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m already spending too much money and time on this &#8216;hobby&#8217; and have to pick my spots&#8230; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>However our own Dr. Peter Swan (co-author of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=608\">Space Elevator Systems Architecture<\/a>) attended (and presented)\u00a0and has emailed out these notes from the Congress:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The sessions at the International Astronautical Federation Congress in Glasgow were very successful and exciting with its presentations.\u00a0 The one I really enjoyed was the reporting on the success \/ problems of the YES2 tethered Space Mail flight.\u00a0 Real space tethers with modest success is always a delight to see in our industry. (Note &#8211; I blogged about this <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=880\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 In addition, we had the 6th annual Space Elevator Luncheon.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The papers that were presented were:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Session I<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>What if?
