{"id":1093,"date":"2008-10-06T15:53:09","date_gmt":"2008-10-06T20:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1093"},"modified":"2008-10-06T15:53:09","modified_gmt":"2008-10-06T20:53:09","slug":"the-space-elevator-makes-xkcdcom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1093","title":{"rendered":"The Space Elevator makes xkcd.com&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my very favorite comics is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.xkcd.com\">xkcd.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Their view on things is, well, to say the least, unique.<\/p>\n<p>A few days ago, they had a comic which showed &#8220;<em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/imgs.xkcd.com\/comics\/height.png\">Height<\/a><\/em>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"center\" width=\"500\" src=\"\/media\/XKCD_Height_500.png\" height=\"1999\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 1999px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now they have one which shows &#8220;<em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/imgs.xkcd.com\/comics\/depth.png\">Depth<\/a><\/em>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"center\" width=\"419\" src=\"\/media\/XKCD_Depth.png\" height=\"2050\" style=\"width: 419px; height: 2050px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The authors of these cartoons love to draw in little &#8220;in the know&#8221; bits.\u00a0 Note the &#8220;Edge of Federation Sector 0-0-1&#8221; in the &#8220;Height&#8221; image and Peter Norton shooting down a bacteriophage and the &#8220;IPOD Femto&#8221; in the &#8220;Depth&#8221; image.<\/p>\n<p>But the real prize in the &#8220;Depth&#8221; image is the carbon nanotubes and resulting Space Elevator.\u00a0 We&#8217;re everywhere!\u00a0 We&#8217;re everywhere!<\/p>\n<p>This website \/ cartoon strip is HIGHLY recommended.\u00a0 Put it into your RSS reader &#8211; it really is worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia has an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xkcd\">extensive entry<\/a> regarding XKCD &#8211; very interesting reading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, let me <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=897\">link<\/a> to an earlier post I did with an XKCD cartoon &#8211; one with James Bond and the centrifuge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my very favorite comics is xkcd.com.\u00a0 Their view on things is, well, to say the least, unique.
