{"id":1058,"date":"2008-07-22T01:06:13","date_gmt":"2008-07-22T06:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1058"},"modified":"2008-07-22T23:02:17","modified_gmt":"2008-07-23T04:02:17","slug":"more-translation-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1058","title":{"rendered":"More translation updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve added three more translations on my <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=966\">Translation Project<\/a> page; Estonian, Esperanto and Pig Latin \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The Estonian translation (and it&#8217;s English pronunciation) was kindly sent to me by Marko M\u00e4nd &#8211; thanks Marko!<\/p>\n<p>The Esperanto and Pig Latin translations came from some translator programs on the web&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Tom Nugent, of LaserMotive fame, suggested that I get a Klingon translation &#8211; what a great idea!\u00a0 I visited all of the\u00a0web-based Klingon translators I could find and they either a) did not work or b) did not provide me a translation.\u00a0 So, all of you Trekkies out there, if you can provide me with a Klingon (or Vulcan or Romulan) translation of &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221;, that would be uber-cool&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, I&#8217;ve added a new &#8220;Post Category&#8221;, that of &#8220;Translation Project&#8221;.\u00a0 This way readers can see the evolution of this project over time.<\/p>\n<p>Two other notes:<\/p>\n<p>First, AA (who sent me the Greek translation and also the incredibly detailed English pronunciation guide), also pointed me towards a Greek-language article on the Space Elevator.\u00a0 You can find it <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kalifasi.blogspot.com\/2008\/07\/blog-post_20.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Second, one of the presenters at the conference, Dr. Karen Ghazaryan,\u00a0was Armenian.\u00a0 He gave a talk (&#8220;<em>Stability of Superconducting Cable Used for Transportation of Electrical Current from Space<\/em>&#8220;).\u00a0 While perfectly understandable, it was obvious that English was not his first language.\u00a0 At the end of his talk, someone from the audience asked him a question.\u00a0 This person, I believe, was Russian.\u00a0 They quickly switched into Russian for their dialogue while the rest of us looked on.\u00a0 However, I was able to understand one phrase he used, &#8220;Cosmeecheski Leeft&#8221;, as that is Russian for &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221;.\u00a0 So this project has already produced a tangible benefit for me \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><em>22JUL08 &#8211; Correction:\u00a0 Tom Nugent of LaserMotive suggested Latin while I thought of Pig Latin.\u00a0 And it was Martin Lades, one of the Conference organizers, who thought of the Klingon idea&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve added three more translations on my Translation Project page; Estonian, Esperanto and Pig Latin \ud83d\ude42 The Estonian translation (and it&#8217;s English pronunciation) was kindly sent to me by Marko M\u00e4nd &#8211; thanks Marko!
