{"id":1019,"date":"2008-05-30T23:45:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-31T04:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1019"},"modified":"2008-05-31T00:30:19","modified_gmt":"2008-05-31T05:30:19","slug":"isdc2008-day-2-part-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1019","title":{"rendered":"ISDC2008 &#8211; Day 2 &#8211; Part 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are a few more photos taken at today&#8217;s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.isdc2008.org\">ISDC2008<\/a> conference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day2%20170.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"150\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day2%20170.jpg\"  height=\"200\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 200px\" \/><\/a>This first one is of a young lady walking around ISDC2008 in a concept design for a new-style spacesuit.\u00a0 It is supposed to be much more flexible and efficient then ones being used today.\u00a0 She told me the name of the company was &#8220;StarSuits&#8221;, but that they don&#8217;t yet have a website.\u00a0 You heard it here first&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day2%20176.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day2%20176.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>This second picture is of (from left to right) Ben Shelef, Brian Turner and Ray Dittmeier.\u00a0 Ray is the author of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/spaceprizes.blogspot.com\/\">Space Prizes Blog<\/a>, a blog dedicated to all things Space Prizes related.\u00a0 He and I have emailed each other a few times in the past and he has always had nice things to say about my blog so it was a real (and unexpected!) pleasure to meet him today.\u00a0 His blog is very succinct and is the place to go if you want to follow events in all of the various Space Prize competitions being held.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day2%20165.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"150\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day2%20165.jpg\"  height=\"200\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 200px\" \/><\/a>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nssspaceelevator.org\/\">National Space Society (NSS) Climber team<\/a> is selling raffle tickets for a Quilt.\u00a0 I&#8217;m told that this is not just any quilt, but one that normally sells for thousands and thousands of dollars.\u00a0 This picture is a closeup of the tickets.\u00a0 Well, I thought they were interesting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day2%20178.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day2%20178.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>Finally, this photo shows the shipping box for the Meteor Crater exhibit.\u00a0 It&#8217;s laying on its side and, sizewise, is quite impressive.\u00a0 My guess is about 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 4 feet deep.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure the shipping company was thrilled when they saw this&#8230;\u00a0 It looks very sturdy and should keep this exhibit well protected.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, we finally get to the two Space Elevator presentations which are scheduled.\u00a0 The first is by Jim Dempsey, an entrepreneur who has come up with an alternative way of deploying a Space Elevator tether.\u00a0 The second presentation will be by Bert Murray of the NSS team, giving us a status report of his team&#8217;s climber.\u00a0 He&#8217;s also promised to bring the &#8220;proof of concept&#8221; model used in the BBC footage I <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=978\">blogged<\/a> about last month.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>(Click on the thumbnails for a larger version of the picture)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are a few more photos taken at today&#8217;s ISDC2008 conference.
