{"id":1014,"date":"2008-05-29T15:03:16","date_gmt":"2008-05-29T20:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1014"},"modified":"2008-05-29T15:03:16","modified_gmt":"2008-05-29T20:03:16","slug":"isdc2008-day-1-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spaceelevatorblog.com\/?p=1014","title":{"rendered":"ISDC2008 &#8211; Day 1 &#8211; Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"121\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008Logo.jpg\"  height=\"94\" style=\"width: 121px; height: 94px\" \/>Well, here I am at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.isdc2008.org\">ISDC2008<\/a>.\u00a0 Lots of people, lots of cool space things and a mockup of a possible Space Elevator competition site!<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day1%20006\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"150\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day1%20006\"  height=\"200\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 200px\" \/><\/a>This first picture is of Ben Shelef, fearless leader of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceward.org\">Spaceward Foundation<\/a>, along with an interested visitor to the Spaceward Exhibition (Ben is the good-looking guy on the left).\u00a0 The exhibit is a mockup of what it might look like at the 2008 Space Elevator Games IF Meteor Crater in Arizona is chosen as the venue.\u00a0 While the crater is to scale, of course the Lego climber on the &#8220;tether&#8221; and the balloon are not &#8211; the balloon should be about the size of a golf ball.\u00a0 And this exhibit, of course, is the answer to\u00a0the &#8220;Under construction&#8221; riddle I&#8217;ve posted over the past several days.\u00a0 Ben will have a more extensive posting of his &#8220;progress pictures&#8221; on the Spaceward website in the next several days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day1%20021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day1%20021.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>This picture is a closeup of the &#8220;crater&#8221;.\u00a0 The &#8216;sand effect&#8217; was created with, oddly enough, real sand.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day1%20017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"200\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day1%20017.jpg\"  height=\"150\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 150px\" \/><\/a>Here is a picture of the background Spaceward Display.\u00a0 You can see several translations of the term &#8220;Space Elevator&#8221; on the display.\u00a0 It&#8217;s nice to know that someone is getting some use out of my Translation Project&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/ISDC2008_Day1%20012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" width=\"150\" src=\"\/media\/ISDC2008\/tn_ISDC2008_Day1%20012.jpg\"  height=\"200\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 200px\" \/><\/a>And finally,\u00a0we have a closeup of Ben &#8211; this to show a certain family member that he really can wear a suit, even though it goes against everything an Engineer stands for.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit\/display\/mockup is really quite awesome &#8211; Ben did a great job on this and it has generated a lot of interest.\u00a0 Lots of people were attracted to it and this, of course, helps get the word out.<\/p>\n<p>More later, including some video I&#8217;m taking&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>(As always, click on the thumbnails for a larger version of the picture)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, here I am at ISDC2008.\u00a0 Lots of people, lots of cool space things and a mockup of a possible Space Elevator competition site! .
