As announced on the Foresight Nanotech Institute website, Michael Laine, founder and President of LiftPort, will be giving a presentation “on the topic of using nanotech to build a space elevator.”  This presentation will be on Tuesday, May 30th, at 12:30pm Eastern time and will be available via webcast for those of us not able to attend.

I hope to heck that his talk isn’t based in any way on the fact that “carbon nanotubes” also has the letters n-a-n-o in it. Maybe some nano-scale machines that manufacture (perfect) CNT threads from individual atoms, or that weave them into chain-mail-like fabric? Remember, CNT threads are found in candle soot, and that’s not nanotechnology. Neither was Mork.

    hi guys…

first, you may have seen the announcment because of the foresight website, but i wont be speaking there, i will be in DC (other coast, they are in SF) at the http://www.wilsoncenter.org/index.cfm the event is here (scroll to the bottom of the page, on the 30th) http://www.wilsoncenter.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=events.welcome

second, the foresight group is a pretty good program, and yes, i have spoken at thier conference too, back in november – and yes, they wanted to talk, because of nano… 🙂 by the way, they are really shying away from the nano-machining end of things as 30-50 years away, so they might as well catch some of the buzz around nano materials…

    take care. mjl
