Feersumm Endjinn

Over at BillSaysThis, he posts a review of Iain M. Banks 1995 book Feersumm Endjinn.ย  This SF novel, favorably reviewed by most readers at Amazon.com, revolves around descendents of a civilization that had built a Space Elevator.ย  Be warned, this book is supposed to be fairly “heavy reading”, especially for a SF novel.

Project #83 on my To-Do list…

I can back you up on this one, as an avid Banks fan; Feersum Endjinn is indeed a superb bit of SF, and while it’s challenging as a read it is very rewarding in recompense. Though you may find the space elevator part of the plot isn’t as prominent as you might have liked! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously, bump it up the list if you can do so without dislodging important priorities. If you’re a fan of good science fiction, you’ll love this book.

Keep up the good posts, you find some good stuff here.

P.S. Would it be boasting to say that I got a comment from Brian ‘Liftport’ Dunbar at my blog? Probably, but I find myself doing so anyway… ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I’m a big science fiction fan. Clarke’s The Fountains of Paradise was what initially got me interested in the concept of a Space Elevator.

Thanks for the compliment, too. I try… OK, OK, I’ll move it some notches ๐Ÿ™‚

Would someone tell me what the big deal is? I’m just this guy. Okay, I find myself blogging and responding about a single topic .. a lot .. but I’m just a guy from Middleonowhere, Wisconsin who works for a small company in Seattle.

The “big deal” is that you’re working for LiftPort – and that’s mega-cool. You doing what you do for them makes you somewhat of a celebrity, admittedly in not the largest circle, but a celebrity nonetheless…

Just think what will happen to you if LiftPort can actually pull this off. You’ll probably have a fan club and groupies and your autograph will become prized. You’ll have your own gig on Fox or CNN. Leno and Letterman will compete to have you on their show first. Oprah will want you to give her a personal tour of the LiftPort facilities. Theyll name a street after you, or maybe the Tower’s Orbital Lounge (“Dunbar’s Hideaway” – I can see it now).

By the way, can you autograph a copy of LiftPort’s new book for me?

You’re a funny guy Ted. But I promise to use my super-celebrity powers for good, not e-vil. And if I ever become a pretentious humorless git, feel free to smack me around. Thanks.

An autograph? I contributed nothing to the book but, sure. why not.

You’re in Chicago? We might be doing WindyCon in the fall.

I’d love it if you guys came to WindyCon. Rosemont is only 30-40 minutes from my house. If you guys show up, one night’s dinner is on me..
