5 star accommodations… in space?

Techie Day hopes that creating some hotels in space will help jump-start the Space Elevator project.  Personally, I think it will be the other way around…

I agree with you that space elevators and space hotels will definitely have to work hand in hand. The cost of bringing resources up to a space hotel would be ridiculously expensive using traditional space shuttle or rocket launches. It would be in the economic interest of space hotels to build, maintain and even own space elevators. Now that space is slowly being privatized, the possibilities are becoming really exciting.

Do you have an idea when space elevators will become a practical reality? As a potential space tourist, I really don’t want to eat freeze dried space ice cream when I go up to a space hotel. I certainly hope that a space elevator will bring me some good steak. =)

We’re aiming for 2018. Of course if everyone pitches in and helps it could happen just a bit sooner.

Seriously – the metaphorical “car stuck in the mud” that is our situation vis-a-vis space launch is going to get rocked out sooner or later. Do you want to tell your kids you pitched in and helped, got muddy in process and tired but you by God did something or that you stood on the sidelines and thought good thoughts?

And when I say ‘help’ I don’t mean you need to get in the trenches and slave for a pittance. Generating a lot of comment and opinion is certainly a valid way to get some traction. So blog me hearties. Tell your friends and relations. Buy a fripping T-Shirt at our store.

The T-shirt is a good idea – I just purchased one. Looking forward to the new poster and the new book, both of which I’ll be ordering.
